JUST IN: Senate Demands Removal of CAC Registrar-General, Gives Reasons

The Nigerian Senate has called for the removal of the Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), Husaini Magaji, over his repeated failure to appear before lawmakers.

The resolution followed a motion raised by Orji Uzor Kalu during a session of the Senate Committee on Finance, held alongside the appearance of the President’s economic team.

Lawmakers expressed strong displeasure when the list of agency heads was read and the CAC boss was again absent.

The meeting began on a tense note as senators questioned the continued disregard for legislative invitations by the commission’s leadership.

Moving the motion, Senator Kalu accused the Registrar-General of consistently avoiding oversight duties and ignoring summons from the finance committee. He described the situation as unacceptable and harmful to accountability.

“Since I came to the Senate, he has always given excuses that he is in the Villa.”

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Sani Musa, supported the motion and highlighted unresolved issues concerning the reconciliation of CAC revenues. He said the absence of the Registrar-General had stalled clarification of financial records and raised concerns about transparency within the agency.

Further backing came from Adams Oshiomhole, who proposed tougher measures against the commission. He suggested that the Senate should withhold approval of the CAC’s 2026 budget until its leadership complies with parliamentary oversight.

After deliberations, the Senate adopted the motion calling on the President to remove the CAC Registrar-General from office.

The lawmakers maintained that no government agency or official is above legislative scrutiny and warned that continued disregard for Senate invitations would attract sanctions.
